Leadership Development Events

Opening/Closing
          Contest

Opening and Closing contest is a one day sectional only event. This year it will take place at Dixon High School on October 18th, 2023. This contest consists of a novice, intermediate or the officer team. Competitors compete on a team of 6 and memorize their assigned role. The team is judged based on team work, voice and stage presence. This is a great way to kick off your FFA speaking career! 

Creed Speaking

The Creed speaking contest is a freshman only contest where students memorize 5 paragraphs of the FFA creed and recite them. After recitation the competitor will be asked 3 questions regarding the FFA creed. Students will compete at the Sectional Speaking Contest on December 6th at Liberty High School. The students must place in order to advance to the regional level! 

Job Interview

The Job Interview contest seeks to effectively prepare the students for the expectations of interviewing for available positions within the Agricultural Industry.  Students must prepare a resume and cover letter for a mock job they are "applying" for. Then they will compete at the Sectional Speaking Contest where they will go through a mock interview with a panel of judges. Students will compete at the Sectional Speaking Contest on December 6th at Liberty High School.

B.I.G Test

Cooperative Marketing

B.I.G or Best Informed Greenhand is a one day sectional event and is a Freshman only contest. This year it will take place at Dixon High School on October 18th, 2023. The objective of the Best Informed Greenhand contest is to understand the aims, purposes, history, and structure of the Local, State, and National FFA student organizations and know the opportunities it makes available as referenced in the current National FFA Manual and State Constitution. This contests consists of test questions relating to the National FFA organization.

Impromptu 

The Impromptu is a speaking contest where students must be able to think on their feet and is a sophomore only contest! Students will have 30 seconds to select a topic and prepare their 2 minute long speech. Students must then speak for 2 minutes on their given topic. Students will compete at the Sectional Speaking Contest on December 6th at Liberty High School. The students must place in order to advance to the regional level! 

Cooperative marketing contest is a one day sectional only event. This year it will take place at Dixon High School on October 18th, 2023. The Marketing event seeks to effectively prepare the students with the practices and operations of Agricultural Cooperatives.  Workers seeking careers in cooperative marketing must not only develop a high degree of knowledge and skill they must also develop the ability to solve difficult problems.  This event blends the testing of manipulative skills and knowledge required for careers in operations and marketing.  

Prepared Public
       Speaking

In this contest student's must write an informative and creative essay on any agricultural related topic. They get assessed on how the essay is written as well as memorization and speech presence. The students must speak for 6-8 minutes and then answer questions about their essay topic. Students will compete at the Sectional Speaking Contest on December 6th at Liberty High School. The students must place in order to advance to the regional level! 

Extemporaneous

In this contest students have 30 minutes to write a speech on the topic they have received at that contest. The speech should last 4 - 6 minutes long and be mostly memorized. Student's are judged based off of research examples given, poise, and voice presentation. Students will compete at the Sectional Speaking Contest on December 6th at Liberty High School. The students must place in order to advance to the regional level!
